Pre-Physicians Associate Timeline

This timeline serves as a general guide for the Pre‑PA track at Florida State University. Individual pathways may differ based on factors like transfer or accelerated credits, course availability, study abroad, or a gap year. For tailored guidance, meet regularly with your FSU Pre‑health Advisor and your major academic advisor via Campus Connect.

 
 

Year 1

Courses: General Biology I & II (BSC 2010/2011), Chemistry I (CHM 1045 + lab), General Psychology, English, Math.

  • Resources:

    • Join FSU Pre‑PA and pre-health clubs via NoleCentral.

    • Schedule a Pre‑health Advising appointment via myFSU Campus Connect to discuss plans and accelerated credits.

  • Experience:

    • Begin shadowing a PA and logging patient-contact hours.

    • Volunteer in healthcare or community settings in Tallahassee.

Summer 1 – Clinical Exposure

  • Obtain direct patient-care experience (e.g. CCMA, EMT, CNA).

  • Attend FSU Pre‑health workshops (e.g. Pre‑health 101) and plan research or continuing shadowing.

 

Year 2

Courses: Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Chemistry II (CHM 1046), Microbiology (MCB 4403/L), or Statistics.

  • Continue accumulating patient-care and shadowing hours.

  • Begin leadership or research involvement in relevant student organizations.

  • Schedule an advising appointment to confirm prerequisites and readiness for the Pre‑PA track.

Summer 2 – Test Prep & Experience

  • Continue working or interning in clinical settings.

  • Begin studying for the GRE or PA‑CAT, depending on program requirements.

 

Year 3

Courses: Biochemistry (BCH 4053), Medical Terminology (if needed), upper-level electives in exercise physiology or health sciences.

  • Take GRE or PA‑CAT by spring.

  • Start drafting personal statement, and request at least three letters of recommendation (academic and clinical) through FSU’s letter packet service.

  • Attend FSU’s workshops on interviewing and application strategies.

Summer 3 – Submit Application

  • Submit your CASPA application (opens in spring).

  • Continue professional experience, prepare for interviews.

 

Year 4

Courses: Major and elective requirements, finalize GPA.

  • Attend PA program interviews as scheduled.

  • Meet with your Pre‑health Advisor to review post‑application planning and next steps.

  • Graduate!

Gap Year (optional)

  • If you have advanced credits or wish to strengthen your application, consult with both your major advisor and Pre‑health Advisor regarding accelerated graduation or gap year planning
